To keep the rippling steel of The Ember of Muspell from the clutches of rust, you must treat it with the reverence of a king’s ransom. After every use or handling, the blade must be wiped clean with a soft cloth to remove the oils of the skin. We strictly forbid the touch of water; should the blade grow damp, dry it at once with a warrior's haste. Apply a light coat of protective Choji oil or mineral oil every few weeks to keep the Damascus pattern clear and the edge keen. Store your steel in a dry place, safely within its wooden Saya, so that its spirit remains untarnished until the horn sounds for battle.
